When my old friend Dr Kuai’s family called to tell me that he had passed, I pondered on what a special person he had been in my life. I can still remember lying in his office like a porcupine, covered with acupuncture needles and hearing him using my name in an excited phone conversation in the next room. He was arranging for me to meet a disciple of Master Wan Ko Yee in Atlanta the next day. My life was never the same.

How many times had we listened to the tapes–yes, tape recording tapes– of the Master’s trip to Taiwan–and watching a very strange video that showed nectar descending from the sky to fill a crystal bowl somewhere in Los Angeles. Dr. Kuai opened his beautiful new home located next to his clinic to create a Dharma Center where we could study a little book, True Stories about a Holy Monk, that told us about this magical substance called “nectar” that came from another realm and was bestowed by Buddhas as requested by this Dharma King from China who was now living in southern California. This book also contained a tantric Dharma practice you could start with Kuan Yin as your yidam. I don’t think I knew about yidams yet. That all came later. Losing such a dear and important friend is a great loss and I can only send love and merit to him for his journey onward. Many of us were touched and changed by his generosity and enthusiasm for the true Buddha Dharma. Thank you again Dr. Kuai. I have no words that can adequately express my thanks for all you gave me.
