I will be reading again from an unpublished translation of Expounding the Absolute Truth through the Heart Sutra by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III this Sunday, September 21 at the temporary home of the Holy Heavenly Lake Xuanfa Dharma Center at 19099 Lemon Street, Buddhist Town, Hesperia, California. I will hopefully also be able to do this October 26 and December 21 this year and continue until 2026. We held our first class at this site on July 20 with an introduction to the Heart Sutra and it’s title and again on August 17.
This class will continue our investigation into the meaning of the first word in the title–“PRAJNA” by studying the first two kinds of prajna–language prajna and contemplative-illumination prajna. this will include looking at the meaning of thought, time, dhyana, the six realms and three spheres as well as form, formlessness, rebirth, the Middle Way, worldly Dharmas, and ultimate truth. We encourage questions and discussion and will take as much time as we need to cover this series on just the five words in the title of the Heart Sutra–Prajna Parmi-ta Heart Sutra.

We will take an hour break at noon. You may leave to find lunch on Bear Valley Drive or bring a picnic lunch and enjoy eating at the lake. This reading is part of the Learning from Buddha Seminary course DCB21-Expounding the Absolute Truth through the Heart Sutra: Forwards, Introductions, & PART ONE-Title. If you enroll in this course you will have access to other discussions on this material and a list of questions to help you study it. If you are enrolled, you may use the questions as homework and submit for review your understanding of what you heard means. CLICK to register for the course to enroll, but this is not necessary to attend the Sunday discussions at Holy Heavenly Lake.
Be sure and enroll in DCB26-“How to Realize Prajna”, if you want to join our long term study of the Heart Sutra or the broader study of C41(A)-the Three Principle Stages & Paths of Buddhist Practice. There is an expanded article on C41(A) that explains its scope and content. CLICK for video of that discussion and revised maps of this roadmap to C41(A). DCB26 is one of the Learning from Buddha Seminary (LFBS) courses that are included in C41(A). There is also another article that discusses G03(A) and G03 Evolution of Buddhism, two additional courses that are also part of C41(A). We are also starting a Tuesday evening course August 19 on ZOOM from 6-7 PM Pacific Time on P10-“The Great Dharma of Zen Practice,” which will include meditation instructions.
CLICK for a list of available classes in each of the programs: Auditing, Buddhist Studies, and Xiuxing Seminary. Those with membership in the Xiuxing Seminary Program who are only interested in serious practice and not opening a Dharma Center may also elect to follow the Xiuxing Practice Program and take a seven or thirty-day Solitary Retreat.
