Watching the sun rise over the San Bernardino Mountains on the southern shore of Holy Heavenly Lake is a sight to behold. This is the site of the Zheng Xing Garden and for a brief time most months will be the location of the Holy Heavenly Lake Xuanfa Dharma Center. On July 20, 2025 we held our first Dharma class there and hope to be able to do this monthly, weather permitting. We will in the future have a permanent home to the east of the lake where you can see the mountains rising in the distance in the above photo. An architect’s rendering of the Zheng Xing Garden to be located at this same location is shown below. This beautiful structure is scheduled to be built by the World Buddhism Association Headquarters in the first phase of development at Buddhist Town.
We have temporary signs posted to help people find the Dharma Center. The old caretaker’s home is transformed for our classes complete with altar and phoenix-dragon prayer rug at the fireplace. We may need this fireplace later. We started our reading of Part One on the meaning and concepts expressed in the title of the “Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra” from H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha’s Expounding the Absolute Truth through the Heart Sutra. Our next class, August 17 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, will begin our discussion on the first concept in that title–“prajna.” We invite all who can to join us as this is the heart of the entire sutra and critical to understanding the Buddha Master’s text. there will be a total of ten lessons devoted just to the meaning of prajna including the three kinds of prajna: language, comtemplative-illumination, and intrinsic-reality.
