Another Kalu Rinpoche Interview

H.E. Kalu Rinpoche (1990- ).

This is another interview with H.E. Kalu Rinpoche II in Bhutan with Farmer Sangay that I think you might find interesting. He covers practice; enlightenment; awareness; meditation techniques, including Tibetan samatha and vipashyana; yoga; modern life, spirituality, & scientific methods; dogma; and the role of retreats. He also gives a bit of background on his own life experiences as they relate to his practice and state of mind.

I really like this rinpoche and have not found him to deviate from anything the Buddha Master taught us. Remember, he is the only rinpoche that I know of who Buddha Master said was an authentic reincarnation of the previous lineage holder. I see in some internet posts that this Kalu Rinpoche is considered the third in his lineage (at least in America), but I had thought that he was only the second and that the previous Kalu Rinpoche was not a reincarnation, but someone who achieved rinpoche status on his own in that lifetime like Milarepa. If anyone knows what is correct on this, please let me know. There was some messy stuff as the current Kalu Rinpoche lost both his birth father and the “regent” rinpoche who died when he was quite young leaving him quite unprotected. He is very modest and has some very interesting takes on guru worship that I think you need to hear. This young Bhutanese rinpoche, as the Dharma King of the Shangpa Kagya, is trying to bring the Buddha Dharma that he has to his generation and the modern world, while maintaining the tradition.

Recorded January 2023 in Bhutan.
