I have already mentioned important announcements from the World Buddhism Association Headquarters given during the first 35 days of the Chinese lunar calendar in 2018 concerning receiving true inner-tantric initiations. I intend on highlighting certain principles and concepts from these statements in this blog, especially the direct teachings offered by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III.

In regards to inner-tantric initiations in Answer No. 5, the Buddha Master is critical of the emphasis in these announcements on so many states and phenomena manifesting holiness (some may call them miracles or mysterious). His Holiness did not do this to say that this is not good or true or that Shakyamuni Buddha did not expound on such things in the sutras. In fact, He said, “The states and phenomena of manifesting holiness expounded by Shakyamuni Buddha in the sutras are more than what you said and are more miraculous, powerful, subtle, and marvelous than what you said.” You should not regard the manifestation of holiness (miracles) that may be expressed during these initiations as strange or paranormal phenomena or harbor doubt about their authenticity.

The Buddha Master also states that not everyone will be able to receive a successful inner-tantric initiation that exhibits holy manifestations because they will not find a qualified master who will teach them and even if they do, they may not be qualified to receive it. These disciples still need to learn and practice the teachings of the Buddha and there are many ways they can do this. The Buddha Master said, “I advocate that cultivators learning Buddhism have their own affinity with the dharma and should choose for themselves the sect or school they like. As long as a sect or school is within Buddhism, each has its own advantages. At where I am here, all sects and schools are equal. The 84,000 dharma methods expounded by the world-honored Shakyamuni are to be used for responding to the available opportunities to benefiting living beings. Regardless of learning which sect or school, one should first learn to be a good person and start from paying attention to the law of cause and effect. Once one can truly abstain from all evils and do all kinds of kindness, one’s character of humanity will elevate to the character of holiness. If one can’t even act as a good person, can such a person realize holy fruit from learning Buddhism? Furthermore, many sects and schools have evolved from today’s Buddhism. For example, there is not much about initiations in the teachings and dharmas of exoteric Buddhism. Could that possibly mean that there is no accomplishment from exoteric Buddhism?”
