What Else Is New at Learning from Buddha College and Seminary (LFBCS), February 4, 2023

Yesterday the Imparting the Absolute Truth through the Heart Sutra Saturday morning discussion group met again to explore another 16 questions (182-198) concerning the three types of prajnas. We considered what is correct view of rebirth; the meaning of the “middle way,” conventional and absolute truth, the five aggregates; but mostly focused on the meaning and function of “contemplative-illumination prajna” and “intrinsic-reality prajna. We learned that what is called “the Dharma method of non-duality” is the middle-view state in which one does not abide in the view of the absence of form or characteristics or the view that there is no such thing as the absence of form or characteristics. This is the middle-way state with regard to forms and characteristics. The so-called Dharma method of non-duality entails not abiding in the absence of form or characteristics. This is very important. . . when prior thoughts have already gone and future thoughts have not yet arisen, this is what is meant by the absence of form or characteristics.

Next Saturday, February 11 at 9:00 am, we will continue our study of the middle-view state and more about prajna for probably two more sessions and then take the second part of the title “parami” and likewise try to understand its meaning. “Ta” will follow. The class next week should also explore the Buddha Master’s criticism of qigong and acquiring the rainbow body.

There was a typo on the name of the video added last week for the previous week’s zoom session. It should have covered questions 165-181 as it now does.
