Discussion on Preliminary Practices Begins on “Imparting the Absolute Truth through the Heart Sutra”

Student studying “Imparting the Absolute Truth through the Heart Sutra” at the Holy Vajrasana Temple.

Today, October 1, 2022, we continued our discussion of questions from DCB26 on “How to Realize Prajna” a discourse from Imparting the Absolute Truth through the Heart Sutra by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III. We covered Lesson 37 on preliminary practice dharma. We talked more about methods the Buddha Master gives us to generate a state of mind that is cognizant of impermanence and essential for practicing dharma and what was correct view to hold concerning strange miraculous phenomena we may encounter in our practice. The discussion also covered what it means to be a human being and how you need to be a good human being before you can begin to be a holy being and what that means. This was also discussed the previous night at our first Debate on Suffering. A lot of what we discussed centered on conduct or what we do in our daily worldly activities and the importance of the practice of forbearance.. and strictly abiding by the precepts.

We ended the session with a look at karma and how we repay our karmic debts. CLICK for more on that discussion, but it emphasized the fact that we need to avoid planting any more bad karmic causes and promptly plant good causes that will then mature first and give us the merit and good fortune to prosper and proceed. By pushing the bad causes to the future, we will hopefully have already realized prajna and become liberated and as Bodhisattvas be able to easily repay all our karmic debts, knowing that “Buddhas and Bodhisattvas DO NOT ignore the law of cause and effect. Those who are enrolled in DCB26 may CLICK to see the questions (#53-#80) discussed.

We will continue this discussion on October 15, 2022 at 9:00 am Pacific Time to consider the Three Categories of Pure Precepts, as well as the Ten Wholesome Behaviors and the Four Limitless States of Mind. Remember, this whole course (DCB26) is based on the “How” we need to realize prajna that we can start now and continue as we study the sutra itself in later courses. If you have not already done so, please CLICK for link to register for this class and join us, if you have not already done so. You do NOT need to register again, but can use the same meeting code for all the sessions in the series devoted to DCB26-How to Realize Prajna.
