There will be two more long retreats to continue our study of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha’s sutra based on the Heart Sutra from the preliminary English translation of Imparting the Absolute Truth Through the Heart Sutra in August and again in October at the temple. Anyone can come to these classes and you may also come earlier to the temple to read the sections that have been covered. We spent the first week long group session on just the title, which covered over 100 pages. The second session covered about the same amount and took us through “Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva ……illuminating the five aggregates.” I think we will repeat part of the third session so we can again study the famous lines to Sariputra that “…form does not differ from emptiness…..etc.” at the August retreat. We will start the retreat on Friday night (August 9) at 7:00 pm and continue until noon on the following Friday (August 16). Those wishing to continue will go to Pasadena for another class at the Amitabha Temple of Compassion and Wisdom in Rosemead on August 17, starting at 9:00 am. The October retreat will start October 11 at 7:00 pm and end Sunday at noon on October 20. Since many people are coming and going at different time, this retreat will be more flexible to allow people to read the text on their own and come together for group discussions as they choose. Bodi Wentu has promised his latest translations for these sessions.
We are now also studying the Supreme and Unsurpassable Mahamudra of Liberation at various locations including Rosemead, San Diego, Hendersonville, North Carolina, and hopefully Portland, Oregon. The Buddha Master has told us that we should not study the two text together as that might be confusing. However, both text are available at the temple and may be read there at any time the temple is available. Please contact us in advance to reserve space.
